For people who love high performance vehicles, next year can’t get here fast enough. That’s when the hotly anticipated 2018 Kia GT will begin to hit Kia dealers around the world.

Thus far, the automotive community has only gotten a few brief glimpses of the marvel Kia designers are making. The occasional spy shot here and there has yielded a few tantalizing looks at the sporty, premium model.

2018-Kia-GT

The Kia GT is said to be based on the South Korean automaker’s concept vehicle that it debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany. Kia has kept tight wraps on details concerning the new vehicle, but here are a few items we do know about the long-awaited vehicle:

  • The vehicle is absolutely gorgeous. The chrome finish gills near the intersection of the front doors and fenders, its quad exhaust tips, or its elegant C-pillar – all of the vehicle’s design elements come together to create a handsome car.
  • The engine is likely to be a 3.3 liter turbocharged V6 that generates 389 horsepower and 394 lb. ft. of torque. The transmission will most likely be an eight-speed also used by the Kia Cadenza.
  • The GT may also come in a hybrid version that combines a four-cylinder engine with an electric motor.
  • The 2018 Kia GT will be a four-door sedan intended to compete with vehicles such as the Audi A5 and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. Keeping with Kia’s reputation for competitive pricing, the new vehicle is likely to be less expensive than its rivals.
  • The 2018 Kia GT will probably debut at the Paris Motor Show.
  • Production is likely to begin in 2017, and the vehicle will be available for the 2018 model year.

Kia is holding details about the new vehicle close to the chest, and the information embargo is stoking anticipation among consumers about the 2018 Kia GT. Kia dealerships across the nation can expect a flurry of interest in the vehicle when it debuts.

Kia’s Evolution

Kia and its corporate cousin Hyundai have greatly changed in the last decade, growing from a bargain import brand to two quality leaders in the industry. Both Hyundai and Kia have drastically improved design and build quality in recent years, turning out more attractive and reliable vehicles.  The two companies have spurred consumer confidence by offering 10-year, 100,000-mile warranties with their vehicles, guaranteeing quality.

Hyundai’s higher-end models have leaned toward the luxury market, while Kia is aiming its top-shelf products for the performance market. The 2018 Kia GT will mark the next step in Kia’s game plan.
