In yet another sign of the quality of Kia’s cars and automobiles, two 2016 Kia designs topped their respective categories in this year’s Strategic Vision Total Quality Impact Awards, with Kia finishing overall in a tie for first place in the brands under $26,000 category.

The Total Impact Awards, which this year surveyed nearly 40,000 new-car drivers about the overall quality of their vehicles, is the auto industry’s most exhaustive and comprehensive award, and winning its category is a definitive sign of a car model’s high quality.

The Strategic Vision Total Quality Impact Awards measure a vehicle’s quality, safety, and styling; in other words, it asks new car drivers about the total overall quality of their vehicles, and not just one specific category.

This year, the 2016 Kia Sorento CUV and 2016 Kia Sedona Minivan achieved the highest TQI scores in the mid-size CUV and minivan categories (in a tie), respectively. Though it did not win its category, the 2016 Kia Optima also performed well at this year’s Total Quality Awards, and helped contribute to Kia’s overall high standing among car enthusiasts.
According to the president of Strategic Vision, Alexander Edwards, points out that that, ”Kia’s focus on design and technology” is a continuation of the company’s tradition of “[nurturing] the belief that customers have in the thoughtfulness and quality of [Kia’s] products. The Total Quality Award winners [the 2016 Sorento and Sedona], and other well-performing models like the Optima, point to the success that Kia has had in this regard.”

“The Sorento and Sedona are prime examples of Kia’s commitment to surpassing consumers’ expectations in everything we do,” said Orth Hendrick, vice president of product planning, Kia Motors America, “and the Total Quality Impact recognition is especially gratifying as it represents the voice of our customers.”

In particular, the Sorento was praised by new-car drivers for its excellent value and superior interior design, while the Sedona was celebrated for its performance, the craftsmanship of its interior, and its innovative features.

3 Kia’s Win IIHS Top Safety Picks

In addition to being honored by the Total Quality Impact awards, the 2016 Kia Sedona and 2016 Kia Sorento were also chosen as IIHS Top Safety Picks for the year, along with the 2016 Kia Soul. Much of the credit for these awards was given to the many advanced safety features that are included standard with all 2016 Kia vehicles, which include:

  • Dual front advanced airbags
  • Dual front seat-mounted side airbags
  • Full-length side curtain airbags
  • 3-point seat belts
  • Front and rear crumple zones
  • Side-impact door beams
  • Tire-pressure monitoring system

dditionally, the Soul, Sedona, and Sorento include two new and innovative Kia safety features: the Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS) and the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS). Utilizing a set of multiple cameras and sensors installed throughout the vehicle, these safety features are used to alert the driver when they are approaching another vehicle too quickly, or if they are veering out of their lane.
