For 2016, Kia made a number of technology upgrades for the Sportage, including adding a touchscreen display complete with rearview camera for some models, and standard leather seats for EX and SX trim levels. Kia also added a panoramic sunroof and ventilated front seats as standard equipment for its SX trim.

What’s Under the Hood?

Consumers have two engine options for the Kia Sportage. LX and EX models of the vehicle come equipped with a 2.4 liter engine that cranks out 182 horsepower and 177 lb. ft. of torque. The SX model of the Sportage offers a turbocharged 2.0 liter engine that generates 260 horsepower and 269 lb. ft. of torque.

With regard to fuel economy, the LX and EX get 24 mpg combined, while the 2.0 liter engine gets 21 mpg. European models of the Sportage also saw the addition of more diesel engine options. Drivers of the new Sportage report less noise and improved handling.

Interior Design

The new 2016 Kia Sportage has a decently spacious interior with an attractive, modern design. The layout of the dash is user-friendly, and all gauges and buttons are easy to find and use. The front seats offer plenty of leg room and support, and the rear seats are also comfortable, although there is somewhat less space for long-legged passengers.

Technology has long been a strong suit for Kia, and the Sportage does not disappoint. The new Sportage offers a number of great tech features, including blind-spot monitoring, lane departure alarms, collision warnings, emergency braking, and a host of other safety gear options available on select models.

Safety

The new Kia Sportage performed well in government crash tests. The all-wheel version of the Sportage earned an overall rating of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
