Kia completely redesigned its Sportage crossover SUV for 2017, making changes to its styling and mechanics that have resulted in a better-performing vehicle that’s easy on the eyes. The new 2017 Kia Sportage is well worth a look by consumers seeking a crossover SUV, as it outclasses its rivals on many fronts.

2017 Kia Sportage

The new Sportage has lots of great features – more than we can list here, but if you want to learn more about the most talked about features the 2017 model has to offer, consider these:

  • Bold, athletic look – Kia made a number of big changes to the exterior appearance of the Sportage, giving it a more athletic look that lives up to its name. The new Sportage has a larger grille that gives it a more imposing look and helps to differentiate it from other crossover SUVs. LED headlights also give the Sportage a more modern look.
  • Improved steering and suspension – Kia made a number of changes to the Sportage’s steering and suspension to provide greater stability and better handling. The vehicle’s multilink rear suspension now has dual-member shock absorber housings and a dual lower-arm configuration. The Sportage’s front struts have also been redesigned to better tackle changes in road surfaces. The power steering system has been upgraded to reduce friction and improve precision.
  • More steel – The 2017 Kia Sportage is built to last, incorporating advanced high-strength steel into its design. More than half of the Sportage’s body is now made of advanced high-strength steel, up from just 18 percent in the previous year’s model. The changes have drastically improved torsional rigidity and body integrity.
  • Performance – Not many crossover SUVs offer turbocharged engines, but Kia gives Sportage buyers a performance option, offering a turbocharged 2.0 liter four cylinder. This engine cranks out 241 horsepower and 260 lb. ft. of torque, giving buyers plenty of oomph in their new Sportage.
  • UVO3 – Kia is a leader in incorporating technology into its vehicles. Lots of cars have infotainment features, but often the interface is clunky, or there are other buggy problems to deal with. Kia’s new UVO3 integrates seamlessly with the vehicle, offering a nimble 5, 7, or 8-inch touchscreen and great features for managing your vehicle’s performance and its audio entertainment options.
  • Electronic safety features – Did we mention that Kia was a leader in automotive electronics? This excellence extends to the Kia Sportage’s electronic safety features. The Sportage offers a number of great safety features, including lane departure alert, collision alert, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and more.
  • Increased cargo room – Cargo room has been a complaint with past Sportages. The new model addresses these concerns by adding more space to stow groceries, camping gear, and other stuff. By folding the rear seats, Sportage drivers can have 60.1 cubic feet of space.
